Originally from Seattle, WA. USA, Nhon draws his influence from Hip Hop culture where the art of break-dancing plays a major theme in his paintings. His paintings capture the raw energy and power that is expressed in the break-dancing form. His background in skateboarding is also shown thru his work where his current body of paintings include skaters showcasing their technical skills against silhouetted city-scapes. There will be a live painting performance by Nhon accompanied by live music.
2005 Cut Kulture United, an urban design/art collective, stages “Blow Up the Spot,” featuring Nhon Nguyen’s very cool Sumi-inspired break-dance paintings, cut-vinyl designs by George Estrada and Vittorio Costarelli, and Dave Ho’s assemblages from destroyed skateboards.
2000 /July Roq La Rue Gallery COOK & WALSH, NHON NGUYEN Cook and Walsh collaborate in the high tiers of kitsch and functional art; the former works in metal and the latter paints on it, using images as familiar and campy as Cindy Brady, monkey skulls, and wrestlers. Nguyen's paintings of breakdancers are fluid and active, but have a dreamy, muted quality that is quite unexpected.
